March for Transformation is a community wide activity scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2008. It is sponsored by the Mercer County Ministerial Association and calls the community to stand against the influence of drugs and alcohol. The Session has approved a request for our parking lot to be used by handicapped persons, and urges all members to participate as they are led to do so. “A WORK OF ART” - APRIL 2008

Filed under: -News — Administrator @ 7:57 am

We are that part of God’s creation which has the ability to look back in time, and to also anticipate the future. During the season of Lent we looked back on our “worship heritage.” Now as an “Easter People” we have the ability to look forward with joy and hope as we experience new life in the resurrection. Alleluia!

Several things are happening which point us to both the past and the future:
1.) We look back to what our buildings were like before the storm, and to what they will be like when restored inthe future.
2.) We look back on the 95 years of the United Presbyterian Church and 225 years of Presbyterian history in Harrodsburg, and to the future ministry of this congregation.
3.) We look back to leadership which has always been part of our history, and forward to new pastoral leadership which will move the ministry of this congregation into a new time.

In all times, God is with us!

Shalom,
Art

UPDATE ON STORM DAMAGE

Filed under: -News — Administrator @ 7:38 am

Here is where we stand as of now.

The shingle roof on the sanctuary, and the replacement roof on the educational wing should be finished by the time you receive your April Newsletter. This also includes the necessary gutter and down spot work.

The roof on the Academy will be completely replaced just as soon as the support walls on the backside are rebuilt.

A contract has now been approved for the necessary repair work on the church building. This includes repainting sections of the sanctuary ceiling, front door repair, wall and ceiling repairs from water damage, outside painting of the west and south walls, etc.

A contract has also been approved for repairs to the Academy. The most obvious is the back wall, as well as window replacement, and all repairs to the walls, ceilings, and floors of the various apartments. Any needed repairs to mechanical units is also included. (If you want to see the details of what will be done, a copy of the contract for both buildings is on the bulletin board outside the Church Office.)

Two separate contractors will be doing this work:
Bowling Roofing, Lancaster, KY
Arrow Contracting Co. LCC, Harrodsburg, KY

The reasons why these contractors were chosen is explained in a motion approved by the Session on March 16, 2008. It states that Arrow Construction “has a good reputation and has experience on buildings similar to the Academy, stepped in early to preserve the Academy, and was the only bid submitted.” The roofing contractor “was also the only bid submitted on the Academy” and because of that “was given the additional repairs (church building) after the storm.”

We are also in the process of securing a new loan on the Academy. This will replace the current mortgage which we have with Central Kentucky Federal Savings Bank. The new loan will be at a lower interest rate, and will allow us to pay interest only during the construction time when we do not have income from the rental of apartments.

When all of the papers are officially signed, a letter detailing the financial implications will be sent to the congregation. You will be surprised, and very pleased, with how all of this has worked out.
