We will be starting a weekly youth group on Wednesday, September 8th. The group, for those in grades 6-12, will meet each Wednesday from 6-7:30pm. If you have any questions, contact Andy or Stephanie. Also, if you are able to help, we will have a sign-up sheet for volunteers. We will need volunteers to help cook dinner each week, and to come hang out, help chaperone, etc… If you have any suggestions for activities, let us know!

Do you ever wish you could get a better handle on your household finances? This fall we will be starting a 13-week “Financial Peace University,” a program designed to help singles, couples, or families get out of debt and become better financial managers. Jesus spoke more about money and possessions than about any other issue except for the Kingdom of God. Money is not just a material issue, but a spiritual one. The cost for participants is around $100 per family, and for that you receive a Financial Peace University workbook, audio CDs with all 13 lessons, budgeting forms, and other materials. This is a 50% savings from the regular cost. The class will start in September and run through the first week of December.
Free “preview” classes will be held on Sunday, August 22nd at 2pm, and on Tuesday, August 24th at 6:30pm. We would like to open this event to the entire community, so please invite anyone to sign up or attend one of the preview sessions. If you would like to go ahead and sign up now, contact the church office.
The $100 fee might seem prohibitive, but it is a real investment. On average, families in the program reduce their debt by $5,300 and save $2,700 in just 91 days. That’s an $8,000 turnaround! Contact Stephanie, Andy, or any of the members of the Stewardship and Finance Committee for more information. Class schedules will be set based on those who register for the class.

On Sunday, December 20th, we will collect the Christmas Joy offering. 50 percent of the receipts to the Christmas Joy Offering are distributed to the Board of Pensions for assistance programs that provide support to retired and active church workers and their spouses and families. The other fifty percent supports Presbyterian-related racial ethnic education through the General Assembly Council. For more information, click here or watch the video below.
It’s time to think about Poinsettias for the Christmas season. This year the Poinsettias will be $8 each and they will be displayed in the church sanctuary beginning the 3rd Sunday of Advent, December 13th. Order forms are available in the back of the sanctuary and orders are due into the church office by Sunday, November 29th.
On Sunday, November 29th, we will kick off a new 5th Sunday program for our youth (from 6th grade through high school). On Nov. 29th, Carrie Shewmaker will be showing a movie and then leading discussion afterwards, starting at 2pm. Snacks will be provided, and youth are invited to bring their own drinks and additional snacks if they desire.
Pledge Sunday
On Sunday, December 6th, we will have a time for dedication of our pledges for 2010 in church. If you are unable to be in church that Sunday, please mail your pledges into the church. Otherwise, you can bring them with you on the 6th. Please take time to prayerfully consider how God is calling you to share your time, talents, and treasures, and how you might give your “first fruits” for the work and ministry of the church.
